Providing Winter Kit to people in Need by Adam Hunbert

Being part of Rescue Rangers means caring for others. Our latest mission is getting winter kits for people in need all over the world. We are doing our part to bundle up the world this winter. Are you doing your part?  We are looking for your support. Help us raise enough money for 100 coat kits. Each one is only $60. Our Delaware Community Center is participating in Zakat Foundation's effort to help distribute winter kits. This will provide blankets, coats, sweaters, shoes, and other winter items to those in need. We are sending it across the world, including Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Turkey, India, various countries in Europe (refugees), and more. Open your heart and help us bundle up the world this winter. Help us reach our goal please! Call us at 302-533-2334 or drop your donation at the center 1501 Casho Mill Road, Newark, DE 19711.  You can also visit Zakat.org for more information. We appreciate your help.

Washington Zoo

Recently, I went to the Smithsonian Zoo in Washington D.C., where I toured the grounds with my family. While I was there, I noticed many remarkable things. First of all, the trash cans all had messages on them reading, “Are you sure this item cannot be recycled?”

This simple message encourages people to consider whether or not the thing that they were about to throw away could be recycled or not. Conveniently, the zoo has recycling cans right by the trash.

The sign also had another message, “Our trash isn't wasted. Its reused as fuel to generate renewable energy. This shows how much effort the zoo makes to maintain an Eco-friendly approach to connecting people to the environment with not only the stunning animal attractions, but also with the frequent signs to educative us. Here are some of the signs I saw:

SUNDAY'S BRUNCH

The Zakat foundation held a brunch on October 11th.We were presenting benefits of recycling as how this will benefits the world and help us to save the environment. Rescue rangers also held a survey on recycling , based on our survey results  and recycling presentations I feel that going forward  people who were in brunch will be thinking of recycling and also tell others the importance of it. We held a successful brunch of all .I hope we have another event like this one soon , Insha'Allah!

Sunday Brunch

On October 11th, 2015, Zakat Foundation held a brunch. During the social brunch hours, the Rescue Ranger members organized a survey based on recycling, and received over 15 completed forms. After eating, the youth gave presentations that mainly focused on the benefits of eco-friendly living. The event was finished off with a raffle to win a pair of gloves. All in all, the brunch was a success, and we hope to hold another one soon.

Don't Waste Paper by Adam Hubert

Don't throw scrap paper away instead make something with it. You can make anything you want like snowflakes or paper airplanes. Don't use too much paper because it comes from trees. I read that paper is produced from wood pulp. Because pulp comes form trees and we do not have infinite trees, we should take care of the trees. I learned that wasting paper has an affect, green house effect because the material to prepare paper is coming from trees so lots of trees are being cut. Oxygen comes from trees which keeps humans and animals alive. Be aware that the more paper you waste, the more trees need to be cut down. Use few paper a day.  Use only what you need. Be creative and reuse them before you recycle.  Love paper, love trees, love nature. Join the Rescue Rangers to help educate others about recycling and learn to take better care of the environment.

Our New Goal

Do you recycle? Have you ever considered it as something worthwhile of your time? Do you know of the positive effect recycling has--and the negative impact that throwing something away can induce?
As Aldous Huxley once said, “Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.” This is especially true in this case, because millions of people worldwide remain oblivious to the benefits that throwing a soda can in one bin can have over another.

For example, lets look at a water bottle; one of the most frequently thrown away items. By placing it in a recycling bin, you'll not only save twice as much energy, but you'll save it a couple thousand years in a landfill. In fact, Americans use 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour,  but only 27% gets recycled!

The Rescue Rangers are planning on cleaning up parks, surveying restraurants and hotels, and making a positive impact on the Earth. Keep up to date on this blog, and the dates for the park litter cleanups will be revealed in the coming weeks. Remember, every little thing you do makes a difference!
This picture was taken of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch--a massive stretch of debris collected in the ocean!
