Children's Hospital By Meryem Kose

Me making a bracelet for the hospital.
We are trying to raise money for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the DuPont Children's Hospital. We are trying to do many different things to raise money for those hospitals. My sister made a blanket. She put it for auction. The highest bid was $60. I will try to make bracelets to raise money. I like making bracelets so I am glad to help. I already made one and I want to make more later. We are trying to raise $2,500 I will be really happy if you donate!

My first bracelet I made for this project.

Our Goal

It is so easy to help.
Just donate at zakat.org!
Now we are trying to raise money for the two hospitals, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the DuPont Children's Hospital. Now there are many people in those hospitals who are sick and have many different rare diseases. We are planning many different events to raise money for these sick people. We are planning for future bake sales, Farmers Market, Boscovs, and a lot more. If you don't live in Delaware you can still help by donating at zakat.org or sending a check to the zf center. What I personally want to do to help this team is to crochet something and put it for auction or to make crafts to sell. So I made a blanket and put it for auction. Alhamdullilah, in the end it was bid for $60! I was really surprised that it went for that high of a price. Our goal is to raise 2,500. I hope we reach our goal but we can't do it without your help. So please donate!!
Help these poor and sick
children!

Rare Disease Poem

Allhamdullilah, I am healthy and well, but there are many other people that have rare diseases. Here a poem I wrote about Rare Diseases, for the Rare Disease Day.

Have you heard about Rare Diseases?
It is genetic, in your DNA,
It can cause heart defect, or blood disorder,
If its present at birth, its there to stay.

Are you aware of it's impact?
Of the toll it takes on the body.
What they have to live through,
just to survive a day.

If you saw someone like that
someone with a rare disease,
Would you be part of the solution,
Or would you laugh and tease?

They cannot help being sick,
They will have it all their life,
Living through it is a trick,
Full of struggle and strife.

They are many Children with Rare Diseases,
Each day full of agonizing pain.
They are helpless children in need,
For life they must struggle and strain.
“How can we help?” You say
“Allhumdullilah, we are well.”
“And we want to help, today,”
“What can we do, please tell.”

Get Educated, Become Aware,
And learn about people who are different from you.
Take part in this community who is doing their part,
To raise money for the children, That's what you can do.

Raising Money for CHOPS

There are many children who suffer from many diseases and need constant care. Are you aware that so many children suffer from Rare diseases? The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia does research to help care for kids and research the various rare diseases without diagnosis's. So far we raised over $500 at Rare disease day by having a bake sale and auctioning blankets and cards. All the money we raise goes to the the Dupont and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, also known as CHOPS. Making the blankets was very fun for me, because it took several weeks of dedicated work to crochet it. Both my mother and I worked on it, up until the actual Rare Disease day. CHOPS has earned the number 1. spot on U.S. News and World Report's 2013-14 Honor Roll of the nations best Children's Hospital. It was also ranked in the top 4 for all pediatric specialties surveyed.
I'm thankful that I'm healthy, and I want to help those families who have a child with a Rare Disease. We should try to help them in any way we can. The Rescue Rangers are planning events to raise money for this cause. Please attend our events, so that we can all help sick children get better care.

Rare Disease Day

On April 19th there was a Rare Disease Day. On that day there were speeches about different types of rare diseases. Many of them I didn't even know. Even the ones I did know I learned more about them. In this event there was a bake sale. The money from the bake sale was for the DuPont Hospital and for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. We also had blankets for auction made by Rescue Ranger members. We learned how to make those blankets from a class taught by Sister Sultan. I made one of the blankets for auction. It was hard work but it was good to know I was making it for people in need. There was also a card basket for auction. It had many beautiful cards.  All the things for auction were for the Hospitals too.The total amount of money we raised on that event was more than $500! The Rare Disease Day taught many people including me more about rare diseases.

Movie and Arts and Craft by Hana Hubert

Sunday, April 6th, there was a Movie and Arts and Crafts day. We watched the movie:  The Life of Pi while eating popcorn. It was a gripping movie that had us at the edge if our seats. Afterwards we had a bake sale. The white table covered by a sheet was laden with fresh-smelling food that made everyone want to begin eating as soon as possible. Food was served to us in our seats, and we could sit next to our friends and chat while eating. There was a great turnout.  It was a great success and we hope to do it again. The Resuce Rangers were involved in making this a sucess. We worked hard making the posters and advertising it just so we can help those in need. We are committed to find different ways to raise money for our cause. We are in a mission to make a difference in other's life. It feels good to be part of this group, because I am part of something great. I feel good when I am making an impact in other's life. Thank you for your support. We have many events and more projects planned for the future. We can not do it alone. Get involved with us.

Volcano safety tips by Samreen Ahmed.

A volcanic eruption can be a destructive event. Here are some tips on how to avoid danger and what to do if you're caught near an eruption.
Safety Tips
 Stay away from active volcanoes.
If you live near an active volcano, keep goggles and a mask in an emergency kit, along with a flashlight and a working, battery-operated radio.
Know your evacuation route. Keep gas in your car.
If a Volcano erupts in your area
Evacuate only as recommended by authorities to stay clear of lava, mud flows, and flying rocks and debris.
Avoid river areas and low-lying regions.
Before you leave the house, change into long-sleeved shirts and long pants and use goggles or eyeglasses, not contacts. Wear an emergency mask or hold a damp cloth over your face.
If you are not evacuating, close windows and doors and block chimneys and other vents, to prevent ash from coming into the house.
Be aware that ash may put excess weight on your roof and need to be swept away. Wear protection during cleanups.
Ash can damage engines and metal parts, so avoid driving. If you must drive, stay below 35 miles (56 kilometers) an hour.

My escape ideas By- Ward Alzahrani :)

If i was in a panic situation, and a volcano eruption was about to occor i would:

- pack all my things and and blankets and find the fastest transportation avalible.
 -  If that choice wan't avalible then i would run to a trusted family and ask for help.
- I would also try to find my family and help them to safety as well.

Love,
Ward Alzahrani :)

What would I do during a Volcano eruption?

If I ever happened to be in an area near a volcano when its erupting (which I hope to never be) this is what I would do:

  • First I would pack my things like: water, food, my clothes, blanket ect.
  • Next I would hurry out of my house and use any transportation to evacuate the area as fast as possible. I would use a bike, car, and maybe a bus or train that many people who are trying to evacuate would go on.
  • If any of those transportation wasn't available I would take a blanket to cover my head from ashes and RUN!
  • I would keep going and stop when I know that I am in safety.
  • After I know the place has been cleaned I would go back.
When I would go home I would see that it is dirty with ashes everywhere. So now we are trying to help supply cleaning materials so they can clean their houses in Indonesia. So I hope you will support us by donating!
