Why are We Collecting Books?

We are collecting books for sick children in hospitals. We are giving books to them because they are bored. They need something to give them company. Not only are kids bored, adults are too.  So we need adults and children books. Please help by finding some books that you hardly read. Thank You!

Collecting Books

Every book counts!
Our new project for the Rescue Rangers is collecting books for hospitals. The two hospitals we are working on are the CHOP and DuPont. We are collecting slightly used and new books. It could be either adult or children books. We are giving the book to the hospitals so that the kids and adults who are sick there can have some company. There isn't much to do when you are sick, if you don't have books to read. Our goal was to collect 500 books in about two months. Since we already got more than 350 books we changed our goal to 1000 books. We will only be able to reach our goal if you right now go and search your house for unused books.

Martin Luther King Jr. Fun Facts! -Hana S. H.

Many people know about Martin Luther King Jr. He is famous for be a civil rights activist, and standing up for what he believed in. However, there are far more unknown and intriguing facts about him that the majority of people don't know.

    • Everyone knows that King was assassinated in 1968. But did you know that he survived two other near-death experiences? First, when he was twelve, he jumped out of a second story window after learning that his grandmother had died. Secondly, a year before he actually died, a lady stabbed him with a letter opener.

    • He had his honeymoon at a funeral parlor. No one died, but a friend offered to let him use it.

    • Despite being a great public speaker, King got a C in public speaking for his first year.

Dr. King also has a lot of positive characteristics. He stood up for what he believed in, made a difference, and showed the world that the color of your skin doesn't change who you are. Like him, we all can make a difference, and the Rescue Rangers are doing just that. You can help us make a difference too, by donating books that we can give to the Children Hospitals. Every little thing counts! Make a difference now, like Martin Luther King Jr. did in the past, and donate a book to brighten a child's day!

About Martin Luther King Jr by Adam Hubert.

Martin Luther King Jr was a great leader. I read about him. He died  on  April 4, 1968. He was only 39 years  old! That was young.  While he was on a balcony, he got shot. He gave a speech " I have a dream......" He was an amazing person. He helped blacks and whites to live together side by side. He was a civil right activist. King was jailed 29 times. My favorite quote from him is "if you can't fly, then run, if you can't run, then walk, if you can't walk, then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward." I hope to make a difference in the life of others like he did. We are doing a book drive for kids hospitals.  Please donate gently used books to us. We appreciated all your help.
