Washington Zoo

Recently, I went to the Smithsonian Zoo in Washington D.C., where I toured the grounds with my family. While I was there, I noticed many remarkable things. First of all, the trash cans all had messages on them reading, “Are you sure this item cannot be recycled?”

This simple message encourages people to consider whether or not the thing that they were about to throw away could be recycled or not. Conveniently, the zoo has recycling cans right by the trash.

The sign also had another message, “Our trash isn't wasted. Its reused as fuel to generate renewable energy. This shows how much effort the zoo makes to maintain an Eco-friendly approach to connecting people to the environment with not only the stunning animal attractions, but also with the frequent signs to educative us. Here are some of the signs I saw:

SUNDAY'S BRUNCH

The Zakat foundation held a brunch on October 11th.We were presenting benefits of recycling as how this will benefits the world and help us to save the environment. Rescue rangers also held a survey on recycling , based on our survey results  and recycling presentations I feel that going forward  people who were in brunch will be thinking of recycling and also tell others the importance of it. We held a successful brunch of all .I hope we have another event like this one soon , Insha'Allah!

Sunday Brunch

On October 11th, 2015, Zakat Foundation held a brunch. During the social brunch hours, the Rescue Ranger members organized a survey based on recycling, and received over 15 completed forms. After eating, the youth gave presentations that mainly focused on the benefits of eco-friendly living. The event was finished off with a raffle to win a pair of gloves. All in all, the brunch was a success, and we hope to hold another one soon.

Don't Waste Paper by Adam Hubert

Don't throw scrap paper away instead make something with it. You can make anything you want like snowflakes or paper airplanes. Don't use too much paper because it comes from trees. I read that paper is produced from wood pulp. Because pulp comes form trees and we do not have infinite trees, we should take care of the trees. I learned that wasting paper has an affect, green house effect because the material to prepare paper is coming from trees so lots of trees are being cut. Oxygen comes from trees which keeps humans and animals alive. Be aware that the more paper you waste, the more trees need to be cut down. Use few paper a day.  Use only what you need. Be creative and reuse them before you recycle.  Love paper, love trees, love nature. Join the Rescue Rangers to help educate others about recycling and learn to take better care of the environment.

Our New Goal

Do you recycle? Have you ever considered it as something worthwhile of your time? Do you know of the positive effect recycling has--and the negative impact that throwing something away can induce?
As Aldous Huxley once said, “Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.” This is especially true in this case, because millions of people worldwide remain oblivious to the benefits that throwing a soda can in one bin can have over another.

For example, lets look at a water bottle; one of the most frequently thrown away items. By placing it in a recycling bin, you'll not only save twice as much energy, but you'll save it a couple thousand years in a landfill. In fact, Americans use 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour,  but only 27% gets recycled!

The Rescue Rangers are planning on cleaning up parks, surveying restraurants and hotels, and making a positive impact on the Earth. Keep up to date on this blog, and the dates for the park litter cleanups will be revealed in the coming weeks. Remember, every little thing you do makes a difference!
This picture was taken of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch--a massive stretch of debris collected in the ocean!

Being Eco-Friendly By Anaum Allimulla

We the rescue rangers are a part a new Eco-friendly project. One way to start being Eco-friendly is by re-using and recycling. Ecology is very much related to our surroundings. Did you know that when you start recycling and reusing can help stop polluting the environment. So in order to keep our environment safe , We have to start right from our own homes by not wasting electricity to simple things like food and water. We can also start reusing our shopping bags and various other things.
So come and lend your support to the rescue rangers Eco-friendly project.

Eco-Friendly Project!!!!

We have started are new eco-friendly project! We are trying to promote people to being eco-friendly to tour environment. It is very important to be eco-friendly. We need to be eco-friendly to save our planet Earth and our environment as well as making it a better place to live in. A person being eco-friendly not only helps their surroundings to be harmless, but also helps other people and animals around them. We need to clean up parks, roads, beaches,.etc. We recycle things that should be recycled and do whatever we can in being eco-friendly. Being eco-friendly has become a necessity, that everybody should take part in!

Ecology--Simple!

What is ecology? To be precise, ecology is
the branch of biology that deals with the relations of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings. However, in simpler terms, it is a subject focusing on nature; how organisms (living beings) interact with each other and the environment.

Ecology is complex as a whole, but once it is narrowed down, the concept is much simpler. One way ecology is so important to us is that the study help us to better our knowledge of the world we live on, thus bettering our chances of maintaining an eco-friendly lifestyle.

Knowing and studying ecology is one thing, and acting on the knowledge is other. Simple things such as recycling, conserving, and educating others can positively impact nature more then you think. Lend the Earth a hand and make the world a better place. You wont regret it.

Thursday, September 17, 2015

This Autumn's new Rescue Rangers project will be all eco-friendly! We will do projects to improve local buisenesses so that the environment, the animals, and ultimatily us can be protected. We will be focussing on recycling and other ecofriendly activities. We have a lot of upcoming news on the environment and other interesting events so keep in touch with the blog! By becoming more aware of the Earth and environmental issues, you are taking that first step to fix the problem, so don't stray from that path! Save the Earth!

Henna Party

On July 16, 2015, The Rescue Rangers held a Henna Party at Zakat Foundation. There were two henna artists present creating fun and imaginative designs from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. In that short time, we raised $175, making more then 2,500 total for the children's Eid Gifts. There were 17 people who attended the party to help support us. It was an amazing experience to watch the floral patterning be drawn on your hand. If there is ever another henna party then I will definitely be there! I also hope to practice so I can help with the henna designs. It feels could to make a difference and in others lives just by simply caring and planning events that has a global impact.  I am always glad to be part of this group filled with kids who have caring hearts.

George Wilson Center Iftar

On July 2nd we sold the activity books that we made. I like how our hard work paid off because we made $100 that night. We hope to sell more over the next few weeks. So far we have raised close to $2,000 for the Eid Gifts. Kids are giving back to kids. The book turned out well because it was well thought out and organized, with sketches from many creative children. I'm glad to be a part of such a productive and caring group.

A Book In The Making By Hana S. Hubert

On June 14th, the Rescue Rangers had a meeting to continue preparing for the book we are making to raise money for Eid Gifts. My contribution to the book is a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure, where you have to escape from a house by solving riddles and avoiding traps. Writing it was a remarkable experience, and I learned a new style of writing. I can't wait to buy the book when it is made, and hopefully everyone that purchases it will enjoy it. All of the Rescue Ranger members lent their artwork for the making of the book, and a lot of patience and hard work went into producing it.

An Eid Gift

We will be giving gifts this Eid to people who cannot afford it. Many people in the world cannot even afford food for a night. We can help them have an enjoyable Ramadan and Eid this year by simply purchasing gifts for the needy. Both you and the recipients of the gift will be pleased, and you will receive a great reward for your course of action.

Most Muslim families give and take presents on Eid. However, people living in poorer countries cannot afford to purchase anything for their family. Eid is a time for prayers and blessing, and Inshallah we can brighten the lives of some people, and make a difference one step at a time.

The Rescue Rangers will be collaborating to make an activity book, with various sketches and activities the members all worked hard to come up with. The money raised will be used to purchase the gifts that the poorer Muslim families can enjoy. Lets all make a difference this Ramadan.

At The Farmer's Market to Help Nepali Earthquake Victims by Adam Hubert

On Saturday May 16, 2015, I went to the New Castle Framers Market to help people in Nepal. Did you know that a huge earthquake hit Nepal on April 25 2015? I watched a video with my mom to see what devastation the earthquake caused. I felt bad for the people there. It was horrifying to watch houses and pools turn into rubble. According to the Nutritional Emergency Operation Center, at least 3,617 people are now known to have died and more than 6,500 people have been injured. I want to help the Nepali people so they can have food, shelter, water, and clothe. At the farmers market, we collected money by selling chips and cookies. My sister Hana did face painting for $1 and my friend Ruhi sold portrait drawing also for $1. I was glad to be there to help out. It was nice to end the day by eating yummy ice cream. I recommend this video for you to see the effects of the earthquake. If you would like to help, donate at zakat.org.

ZF Team distributing blankets
In Nepal there was a very big earthquake with magnitude of 8.2 , which is a lot. About over 8,000 people died because of this incident! (Could reach to 10,000) 2 million people have been displaced from their homes. Many family members were lost during the earthquake. Now there is a ZF team in Nepal distributing different supplies for the ones who had lost their homes. A few days ago the team distributed blankets to the homeless there. There was a brunch on Sunday in which all the money went to Nepal. The Rescue Ranger team had different jobs during the brunch. We raised $1,500 in the end. Please donate to help the Nepal survivors.

Nepal

In Nepal (located in Asia) there has been a earthquake that happened there recently. This disaster had cost more than 4,600 peoples death, and more than 9,000 people injured. 8 million people across Nepal have been affected, and among that about 1 million are children in need of help urgently. Right now the survivors or facing challenges. There is less hope now of survivors people can save in a hour, it has dropped (the rate of surviving). Thousands of people have now become homeless because of this atrocity. As time goes on the death toll is expected to rise. This disaster we call a earthquake has caused many disasters some permanent and other aren't but still hard to fix.

Trip to CHOP (By Yusuf Patel)

We were working on a project to collect books for the kids in the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and A I DuPont Hospital. We started the project in January and collected 1000 books. I know what it’s like to stay at the hospital because I stayed there a lot. Now let me tell you about the trip to CHOP. My dad and my friend’s  dads drove us to the hospital. We had a good time. We also gave them a check of $500 that we had collected last year. Some of us also played Pokemon while we were there.

Book Drop Off (By Mariam Patel)

On Saturday, April 18th, we gathered at the ZF Center to get all the boxes filled with books. They were really heavy so all the grown-ups had to pick them together. While driving to the hospital, we sat in different cars with our friends. When we arrived at the hospital there were people from the staff who helped take the books to the library. After taking group picture, we went back to ZF Center and had a pizza party. The hospital was called the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The adventure was really cool!!!

We reached our goal of 1,000 books!! Our hard work and our team work from 2 months has finally paid off, especially when you know that you have collected more than we expected. So, tomorrow, Saturday the 18th of April we are going to CHOP (The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia) to drop off 500 books to the hospital's library. 1,000 books, sucsess!

On Monday, April 6th, there was an Arts & Crafts day, to celebrate collecting 1,000 books for the Children's Hospitals. I had a stand helping people make masks, draw pictures, and decorate paper plates. I like being creative and making creations from ordinary objects—so this was a great time for me and others to use simple paper plates and coloring supplies and turn them into pieces of artwork. It's nice to spread your passion for the benefit of others. Being a member of the Rescue rangers, it feels great to positively impact peoples lives

Spreading Awareness

Displaying IMG_2612.JPG

Yesterday, there was a volunteer fair at BrandyWine Library. It was about half an hour to get there and we came home at like 9:30. I went there to spread awareness about different ZF projects. It was fun to tell others about our project and tell them what we did the past few years. Many people came to our table to learn about our zf activities and now more people know about our RR project. I am glad I went there, and hope to go again to spread more awareness.

Having Fun Making Paper Planes by Adam Hubert

I love making paper air planes.  I have fun seeing them soar.  I come up with my own creative designs.  My mom tells me "I'm smart."  I enjoying  making it everyday.  On April 6th, we had an arts and crafts party at ZF Center to celebrate collecting 1,000 books for children hospitals. On that night, I got a table to teach others how to make the planes.  It was nice to share with others the things I enjoy doing.  After we made our own special cool planes, we had a paper plane race. It was dazzling to watch them fly. I had so much fun.  Thank you for everyone who helped us reach our goal.

THE BEST MOVIE NIGHT.

Our movie night on Friday March 20  in the Zakat foundation was a big success. The whole Islamic community came.We reached our goal .Our goal was to raise  1000 books. Instead  of money  each person gave 5 books. As the people were giving books away for the needy, I was thinking we should  give some to the library  and the hospital. Kids in the hospital can read books when they are bored We watched the movie big hero six. I am  pretty sure everyone liked the movie.  We got cupcakes as snacks. The cupcakes looked like Baymax. KIDS at home should read books and also watch big hero six again . Sometimes ,instead of reading at home go to a a  library or a bookstore.    I think I love doing this project. It would  be fun  if we do another thing like this ...

Books are important to everybody!!!

Our movie night on Friday the 20th of March was a success. We reached our goal of more than 1,000 books. At the movie night we raised over 450 books. I think so far, this year this project was my favorite. I hope you all enjoyed the movie. I know I did! There were many mouth watering snacks there like cupcakes and popcorn. I know I love books. Who doesn't?? Kids in hospitals staying for weeks should be able to grab a good book and enjoy it. I think the books that we collected throughout this project will be very important to both kids and adults at hospitals.

We finished our Goal!!

These are the cupcakes I made. (supposed to be baymax)
Yay!!! The Rescue Rangers raised more than 1000 books by the end of March. We finished our goal!! From our movie night we raised more than 450 books, which was a lot! I am pretty sure everyone enjoyed the movie, I know I did. For the movie night, I made cupcakes that looked like one of the main characters. I was glad to be helping in my own way too. We also had popcorn there. I think this project was one my favorite. As we were raising books for sick kids I realized how much I love books. I love going to the library or the bookstore. For kids in hospitals I know how much you need to read a book, especially when you are staying in the hospital for more than a week. I know many kids in hospitals will like to read the books we donated. I can't wait to start our next project!!!!
